How to Use Gmail Postmaster Tools to Control Spam

Google has just released Gmail Postmaster Tools for spam filtering. Gmail Postmaster Tools is useful for high volume email senders to analyze bulk emails to find out how much of their sent email are recognized as spam and the reasons for that.  It also shows how to improve delivery to the recipient’s inbox. In short, this brand new service provides insights about your email reputation with recipients.

Also, Gmail is modifying the spam filtering system on the end-user side. It is now implementing machine learning technologies to detect and block spam trying to pass off as wanted mail.

Here is an easy start guide to enable you to use Gmail Postmaster Tools for your Google Apps environment.

Step 1. Go to the Gmail Postmaster Tools website (https://gmail.com/postmaster/). Click the “Get Started” button and login with your Gmail account.

Step 2. You will see the following welcome window. Click the “Get Started” button.

Step 3. Enter your domain (ie. yourcompanydomain.com) to authenticate your email.

Step 4. If you didn’t verify your domain, you will see the following screenshot. Insert the TXT records for your domain’s DNS settings, and then click on the “Verify” button to complete the verification process.

Step 5.  The domain will now be added. If you need to add additional domains, secondary domains or domain aliases, click “Add Another” button and repeat the process.

Step 6. You will now see the following dashboard with a graph report as below. It will start to show meaningful data in a few days.

Step 7. Click ”Spam Rate” at the top menu bar, and browse other menu options in the drop-down menu.

Use Gmail Postmaster to eliminate spam and boost your delivery rates at the same time.
